Paragon logo

Paragon has grown quickly since forming in 1995, to become a leading supplier of precision engineering services to niche-markets. We specialise in CNC machining and precision sheet metal work.

Our largest customers are hi-tech manufacturing companies which make equipment for areas such as scientific and medical research.

machined turntable sheet steel cabinet

Most of our business is CNC milling, turning and precision sheet metal work for prototyping and production. We also offer an engraving service for panels and components, as well as a wide range of finshing options including anodising, plating, stove enamelling, powder-coating and screen-printing.

We supply most parts finished ready for assembly, but we also supply some items already assembled.

We have a comprehensive suite of CNC machining centres and lathes capable of taking very demanding jobs through all prototyping stages and into full-scale production. Our precision-engineered sheet-metal cabinets, chassis, supports and panels are mainly made for medical and scientific applications, but we also produce parts for a variety of recreational equipment such as hi-fi audio.

Paragon makes anything from single components a few millimetres long to complete assembled units. We have made parts for the following:-

  • fibre-optic testing equipment
  • sample-processing machines for DNA testing
  • 3D laser scanning devices
  • X-ray machines
  • photographic equipment
  • scientific instrumentation
  • bio-robotics
  • injection-moulding
  • inkjet printers
  • agricultural machinery
  • railway carriages
  • communication systems
  • ambulances, roadside recovery vehicles and numerous other uses.

Sheet metal enclosures and support structures are made to the very exacting demands of hospital pathology departments, forensic medicine, laboratory robots and various science-related equipment.

Paragon's CNC-based operation offers important advantages over traditional mass-production and manual machining:-

  • low prototyping and setup costs
  • quick and efficient development from prototype to full-scale production under the same roof, using the same materials, skilled staff and production methods
  • wide choice of materials to provide the best performance
  • complete control over quality and precision at all stages, working to the same manufacturing tolerances from start to finish
  • ability to anticipate potential production problems right from the beginning of the development process
  • freedom to modify designs at any time as a product and its market evolve
  • ability to provide batches of any size to regular or special orders.

Our most recent addition is an engraving service, using both computer-controlled and manual machines. We offer the usual finishing options including anodising, powder-coating and silk-screen printing.

We have the flexibility, capacity, experience and skilled staff to deliver top-quality work efficiently, to tight deadlines, at competitive prices.

Paragon's client base has grown largely within the Cambridge-based hi-tech industry, but we also supply customers far afield who appreciate the quality of work and service which we provide. Our customers' designers value the practical advice which we can give in developing new products for cost-effective production. We have an open-minded, problem-solving approach and enjoy a challenge.

Paragon is based just outside Ely to the north of Cambridge. We are a few hundred yards from the A142 and A10, which give easy access to the A1M, A14 and M11. Ely is well-placed as a gateway linking the heart of East Anglia with the Midlands and we are very conveniently-situated for customers based on the periphery of Cambridge.

Our office is open from 9.00 a.m. to 6.00 p.m. Monday to Friday. Visitors are welcome to phone for an appointment to meet one of our Directors or our Sales Manager. We are always pleased to offer no-obligation quotations for new jobs, usually on the basis of faxed or emailed drawings.

Finished parts may be collected from the premises, but we deliver to most of our locally-based customers and use an efficient express courier for deliveries further afield.

To save you lots of time following links, we've prepared an online brochure which will download in one click. At normal modem speeds it should take a minute or two to arrive. Once you have it, you can instantly flick through twenty pages of pictures and information which give a good overall view of what Paragon is all about. (Use the page-number arrows at the bottom of the screen to turn the pages.)

The brochure is in PDF format, which should open automatically with recent versions of Netscape and Explorer - just make sure that your browser is set to view PDF files as soon as they've compltely downloaded, rather than saving the file to disc or viewing a page at a time as it downloads (which can be a very slow alternative.) If you have any problems viewing it, let us know and we'll send you the files on CD, along with a separate printed brochure for you to keep handy.

The "panorama" button will take you to another PDF - this time a long panoramic photograph of some of the machined components which we have made. It will give you a good idea of the quality of our work and is well worth looking at. Once it is on your screen at 100% magnification, just use the left and right scroll buttons to view it a bit at a time.
